In October, TD Securities hosted a brilliant STEM Day for 20 year 9 students from Gladesmore Community School. Hosted by a group of amazing STEM Ambassadors, TDS arranged a packed agenda of engaging activities to inspire the students about the opportunities available to them in finance and technology.

The students got to hear from a great variety of speakers throughout the day – some even joining virtually from as far as Singapore, New York and Toronto! Over 20 volunteers took part in an exciting speed networking session, which showed the students the huge variety of roles at TDS. Black History Month was celebrated with a special panel presented by ‘TD Securities’ Black Professional Network in Europe’, which showcased the black talent working at TDS.  The students were also given a tour of the office, including seeing the busy trading floor.

“[The best part of the day was] getting to talk to people that worked there, seeing all the different backgrounds everyone was from.” (Student)

“[The speed networking] helped me realise that there are many different jobs in banking that I didn’t know about before.” (Student)

In the afternoon, the students took part in a LEGO building project where they learnt what it was it was like to work on projects in the real world. They had to self-organise, communicate to stakeholders, update on progress and deal with obstacles. They were also given a presentation about C.V. writing and job interviews.

Senior Support Analyst (and STEM Ambassador), Tina Shata, said, “I was happy to see the impact the day had on the students, and I was able to show students how diverse our talent was and show them that they one day could be part of our workforce here at TDS. They left our offices feeling inspired and with more knowledge about the industry.”
